Former President Donald Trump responded to former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s announcement that she would vote for him, expressing appreciation for her remarks. Speaking to Long Island’s News 12 after a rally, Trump indicated that there could be a role for Haley on his “team” and praised her as a “capable person.” When asked if there was room for her on his team or ticket, Trump emphasized their shared ideas and suggested that she would be part of their team in some capacity.
These comments mark a departure from Trump’s past criticisms of Haley, whom he previously referred to as “birdbrain” and targeted during the GOP primaries. Despite their contentious history, Haley stated during her recent public appearance that while Trump is not perfect, she believes he is a better candidate than Biden, ultimately affirming her intention to vote for him.
Earlier this month, Trump rejected the notion of Haley serving as his running mate, posting on his social media platform, “Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!” in response to a news report suggesting that the Trump campaign was contemplating Haley as his vice presidential pick.
During his interview with News 12 on Thursday night, Trump declined to reveal his top three choices for vice president but mentioned several names he is considering: Ben Carson, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator JD Vance, and Representative Elise Stefanik. He stated that he would announce his final decision “sometime during the convention.”
