Hunter Biden is attending a status hearing on Friday ahead of his upcoming trial next month on gun charges, marking the first indictment of a sitting president’s child.
The trial, set to commence on June 3 despite Hunter Biden’s unsuccessful appeal to postpone it, will see discussions between his legal team and prosecutors regarding evidence, witnesses, jury selection, and outstanding motions. Notable witnesses expected to testify include Hunter Biden’s ex-wife and late brother’s widow.
Judge Maryellen Noreika will rule on remaining motions, including the admissibility of Hunter Biden’s book excerpts and text messages. Biden’s attorneys seek to exclude references to his tax and child support cases, Navy discharge, previous plea deal, and lifestyle.
The 54-year-old pleaded not guilty to charges related to gun possession while using narcotics. President Biden and the First Lady are expected to be in Wilmington during the hearing, with the President likely monitoring developments closely. Additionally, Hunter Biden faces separate tax charges in California, with his trial postponed to September. David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware, appointed as special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland, led the investigations into Hunter Biden.
