Negotiations between the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113, representing thousands of TTC workers, have yet to yield a satisfactory agreement.

A no-board report issued by the Ministry of Labour has set the stage for a potential strike by June 7 if a resolution isn’t reached. According to Marvin Alfred, president of ATU Local 113, key issues such as job security, benefits, and wages remain unresolved, despite ongoing discussions since February.

While acknowledging constructive dialogue, Alfred emphasized the need for tangible written assurances to prevent a strike. TTC CEO Rick Leary reiterated the agency’s commitment to negotiations but cautioned about potential service disruptions in the event of a strike.

Despite the impasse, both parties continue to negotiate. TTC board chair Coun. Jamaal Myers and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow express optimism about reaching a fair agreement to avert a strike.
